This week got away from me at work, and GW5 kicks off in a few hours, so this newsletter will be short and sweet.
First off, no surprises here:
This week also saw a notable combination of match upsets and player-specific performance disappointments, resulting in an FPL-wide average 51 points total overall (the lowest gameweek average so far this season).
So it’s no surprise that the top 1,000 FPL managers struggled to find non-captain points, barely averaging 45 points after a significantly better non-captain showing in the first 3 gameweeks:
The rate of chip burning is way down as well:
Lastly, what could possibly be more FPL-appropriate than having a little fun at someone else’s expense? Here is the single worst captain decision (relative to the best alternative player on their team) made so far this season by any of the current top 1,000 FPL managers:
This prize goes to the currently ranked #479, who in GW3 (above) managed to captain Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey (1 point) rather than Erling Haaland (17), costing him 16 points. He did not make the same mistake the following week.
Final thing. Last week I wrote:
By contrast, right now I wouldn’t put much stock in most of the top 1,000 teams until we see a larger gameweek sample size. Here’s a good example of why that is: of the current top 1,000 FPL teams, only 95 were in the top 1,000 after GW1. Only 341 were after GW2.
Now?
See you next week!
